| Holiday Break |
[22 Dec 2005|10:10pm] |
Well, I'm back. Yet another semester survived, with a slight breather before the next one gears up. Every time, I try to promise myself that I'd keep up on LJ during the school year, but inevitably, I let things fall to the side as I try to stop myself from going on-line so I can focus on school-work. Apologies to those on my f-list who haven't heard from me in awhile. I'll try to do some catch-up and commenting over the break as much as I can.
Now, onto a less boring subject than myself. The wondrous chocolate_limes recently recced me the most cracktastic yet wonderful piece of writing EVER. It's completely told from the story of several computers (Macs, PCs, Servers, etc.) and its content is surprisingly human. Drama and comedy to be had for all. I'd highly recommend it for any geek. Networking by shewhoguards. Around Chapter 24, I think there were some uploading problems with the fictionpress website, so I recommend just going to the author's LJ at googlebrat and scrolling back about 25-50 entries to get the latest fic updates. It's addictive, entertaining and just a wonderful read.

I just finished reading The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Wow. It totally owns my soul. I haven't been this impressed with a book for years! Such beautiful language. And such compelling characters! I wish I'd discovered it sooner. It's not like Wilde is some unknown author or somesuch. Le sigh! I blame it on my reluctance to read authors who tend to be widely lauded as writers of "classics" because I often end up disliking them. Sometimes, I feel like I'm the only one on earth who didn't like The Great Gatsby. And Romeo and Juliet. And Hamlet. Yes, my dirty secrets are out. *slinks away*
I haven't had much luck finding new authors/books that interest me, though, so I may just go through one of those widely circulated recommendation lists and see if any of those books might be worth a read. Feel free to chime in or throw rotten tomatoes at me. ;)
Oh! And everyone needs to check this out. Dancing Snape will never stop being funny. Man. Who knew he had such funky moves?

Oh, the madness! I finally got my copy of HBP yesterday, and in a test of my willpower, I won't be reading it until next Monday when I'm on the Greyhound bus back to Toronto. *bites nails and sits on hands*
I am ashamed to admit that I immediately flipped to page 606, though. Because I am still a spoiler-whore at heart and I just couldn't resist. No more comments from me on that until I've read the book.
In the meantime, EEEE! I'm so excited! *bouncebouncebounce* 7 more days for me. Unless I break down and read it in the meantime. But we won't do that, will we, precious? Oh no. Otherwise, we'd have to read our Complex Analysis textbook and that's not as fun as HBP.
*craaazy*
PS - Erica! Remember that Anakin & his Robo-Claw fic you owe me! ;)

There's not much I can say that other people haven't said a million times better, but my condolences go out to everyone that's been affected by this tragedy. It's times like these that I really wish this world wasn't filled with so much senseless violence. I hope the scum who believe that they have the right to end the lives of innocent people are caught and brought to justice.
For the people on my f-list from the area, please stay safe.

New Icon. And a new LJ layout to match it. Well, not so much a layout as an easy colour-change because I'm too lazy to do anything fancy. ;)
POLL! Should I keep the animated eyes or make it un-animated?
In other news, I had a great time relaxing back in Ottawa for the long weekend. alswaiter came over and we watched a bunch of movies! I am officially in love with Spaceballs and Dark Helmet. So much awesomeness. I can't believe I never watched that movie before.

Evil will always triumph. Because good is stupid.
In other news, a funny conversation caught on Fark.com among all the endless flamewars:
bobette: It should go without saying that I want to do pretty much the whole cast of Lord of the Rings. jay_vee: *posts picture of Gollum* Nassssty bobette, She wantses to touch my preciousssssssssss! bobette: OK. But seriously, with the exception of Gollum, the orcs & pretty much everyone on the "bad side", and Gimli, I think I would happily have an orgy with most of the cast. I've italicized "most" in case I'm forgetting someone... jay_vee: Damn, there goes my Treebeard "got wood?" joke.
Heehee. This was in a thread about Orlando Bloom if anyone cares to look for it. Quite amusing.
And randomly:
Why, it's Agent Smith! After a horrendous bug in the Matrix caused a rather disturbing wardrobe malfunction. :D

It's the night before I'm to pack and set off for Ottawa, and of course, I procrastinate on everything by watching amusing videos. Most of these require either Flash or Windows media player/realplayer/quicktime (one of the three).
Star Wars Gangsta Rap - This video has some of the most amazing animation I've seen. And of course, who could miss all our favourite characters rapping?
Sith Apprentice - Who will make the final cut as the Sith Apprentice? Tons of great references in here. And if nothing else, watch it to see Darth Vader riverdancing!
I Want a Fat Babe by the "Backstreet Boys" - Parody of the song "I want it that way." I'm especially impressed considering the vocals were all done by one guy.
This Land - An oldie but a goodie. Pretty good parody of all the back-and-forth that went on during the 2004 US elections.
Check those out for a good laugh! :)

Star Wars: I finally saw Revenge of the Sith a week ago, and it's got me hooked on the Star Wars movies again. It is hands down the best part of the prequels, even if the monotonous delivery of the romantic dialogue made my eyes roll out of their sockets.
Good news: Thanks to Hayden Christensen's performance, I no longer have an unhealthy obsession with Darth Vader. Bad news: This unhealthy obsession has now transferred to Emperor Palpatine. I still vehemently disagree with the design decisions used on the Death Star, though. It's already bad enough to have a central point of failure in any design. It's even worse when it's actually a central point of Destroying everybody and everything onboard.
LotR: I've begun plotting a Denethor Lives AU, and I've almost got the first chapter/prologue finished for posting. It'll probably be posted here, ff.net, and linked on Edhellond's shameless plugs list. I may try to get my account back from HASA, but my last attempt at getting my account re-activated hasn't worked very well. I would just make a new account, but I'd like my stories to be under the same name. Any other places I can post my fic?
TM: My two muses have been approved! Say hello to Donkey from Shrek and Greg Sanders from CSI. If they don't yet have your muse friended, let me know. I'm going to be alternating the two muses' ficlets like I did before, with each muse getting one ficlet/2 weeks. Since I'm also taking on a rather large fanfic undertaking right now, they'll both be open to random chatter, IC or OOC, but no large plots or anything that requires a lot of activity.
Well, that's pretty much it. Expect more writing from me in a few days. :D In the meantime, I leave you with Darth Tater:

[10 Jun 2005|04:32pm] |
So, after several years hiatus, I am back! I am currently in the process of re-friending everyone who went to my HP journal, and just trying to get this journal back organized again. I initially lost interest in LotR mostly because the movie versions of TTT and RotK disappointed me, and then there was the shininess of the Harry Potter books that I discovered for the first time. I enjoyed reading the fics, but for some reason, never really got into writing them.
Anyway, it's summer now, and I'm just hoping to get back to writing now. LotR is really still the most muse-inspiring of fandoms I've been in, so I'm going to see about starting writing again after a long absence. :D Ideas for fics happily accepted. Recs to get me going are appreciated as well!
